Common questions
The things people actually ask
Do I still need to treat the timber?
Yes — the body is real pressure-treated timber and should be treated as normal, ideally once a year. What you no longer have to do is paint around window frames and door edges, which is the fiddliest part of the job. Our aftercare guide covers it.
Will white uPVC look odd on a timber summerhouse?
It’s very much a matter of taste. White gives a crisp, garden-room look; anthracite or woodgrain frames blend more into the timber. We’d rather you saw them side by side than guessed — come to the Barrowford showroom and have a look.
Is it warmer than a standard summerhouse?
With double glazing and full rubber seals, noticeably so — most heat loss on a garden building goes through the glass and around the openings. If you’re planning year-round use, this is most definitely the right choice for you.
Can you fit uPVC to a building I already have?
Unfortunately, we do not; we only fit uPVC windows & doors on our summerhouses at the point of order.
What base does it need?
A firm, square and level base at least the footprint of the building, with 600mm of clear access all the way round. Getting the base right matters even more with uPVC joinery, since a level building keeps everything square from day one. We fit pressure treated timber bases at the same time if you require one.
How long from order to installation?
Give us a ring and we’ll give you a realistic date based on current lead times — we’d rather quote honestly than promise something we can’t fulfil.
